The Village of Ridgewood got its name from its terrain, which is particularly hilly in certain areas. The town, first settled by the Dutch, is home to a number of historical locations and was listed among the top 30 in Money Magazine’s ‘Best Places to Live in America’ in 2011. At first, a center for agriculture, Ridgewood’s residential areas were fully developed by 1970, and now house a significant number of New York City commuters. Ridgewood has a wonderful downtown area, packed with a variety of dining, retail, and recreation options for its residents and neighbors. Education facilities include nine public schools, a preschool, and a private daycare for early learning.
